The story of cacao beans

Did you know? In 1912, the Basel Warehouse Company built a silo on the site of the former German freight station. It became a centerpiece on an important trade route for cacao beans. This marks the beginning of Silo's fascinating history.

Award-winning

With a careful renovation and respect for the existing structure, the Habitat Foundation, in collaboration with the architectural firm Harry Gugger, transformed Silo into a place of encounter, which opened in 2020. This thoughtful process has been awarded.

Together at Silo

Here, living, working, and community come together. In the house’s studios, many people work on their unique ideas and products. Silo stands for a thoughtful development of both the building as well as the neighbourhood. Its doors are open to everyone, and exchange is part of the program.
